The second instalment of the MORTALS series, this piece is a retelling of The Flaying of Marsyas, a scene from Greek mythology in which Marsyas, a satyr, challenges Apollo to a music contest and, in losing, is condemned to be flayed alive for his arrogance. The scene was most famously depicted in a 16, th century painting by Titian, but my inspiration lies in a particular sculpture in the Louvre (Sully wing, ground floor, room 348; located ~40m east of the Venus de Milo).
